The drive must be plugged into the Pi itself. An Apple SuperDrive needs a powered USB hub — the Pi's USB ports can't power it, and a drive attached to another computer can't be seen here.
Alternative: rip the DVD on another computer (e.g., a Mac with HandBrake) and upload the file via the UPLOAD tab in this MEDIA panel, or push it with scripts/rip-and-push.sh from the dist zip.
